The Cosmonaute hasn’t gotten any love by the good factories in many years. Mainly because Breitling let it wither on the vine. The last new Cosmo rep was the quartz cheapie version of the Cosmo Blacksteel, which was less than desirable. This new Navitimer Cosmonaute features Breitling’s “Blacksteel” which has been used with stealthy success on other decidedly “unblingy” B’lings. Under the hood is a bona fide in-house B02 handwound Breitling calibre with 24-hour time display. The new watch features a 42mm black steel case, made utilizing a carbon-based coating that should be resistant to scratches. This same black color carries over to the main dial and sub dials, these then feature red hands and are lumed along with white indices and numerals to make for what should be a rather readable watch.
Breitling issued a limited edition Navitimer that was similar to Scott’s a few years ago. Now, however, the company is going all-out with watch replication by issuing the Navitimer Cosmonaute Blacksteel. It is actually made from black steel and is much more true to the original model worn by Scott than other commemorative editions of the past.
