I have more information on the movement in my Pre-Bond. It is 100% genuine and 100% Omega. Apparently for a short while a non-thermocompensated version of the 1441 was used before Omega switched to the 1438. The movement number and case number have been checked with Omega and they have definitively stated it's A-okay. The Omega 1441 is known for being one of the rare TC movements used by Omega, the others being the 1445 and the 1680, but what makes it even rarer is that it was only used for a year or so in 1988/89 before Omega went back to the non TC 1438 (now 1538). A replacement 1441 or the equivalent ETA 255.561 seems impossible to find but according to my research the Cal. 1438/1538 or ETA 255.461/462 are direct physical substitues. Please correct me if I'm mistaken. I can get a new ETA 255.461/462 but the specs indicate 23.3 mm outside diameter and the Cal. 1441 measures 23.9mm.

This configuration (caseback, crown and mercedes hands) you show was the earliest (1988-89) and should have the cal 1441, a very accurate movement that Omega only used for a year or so. The trouble is that many of those movements were swapped out in services either for the 1438 or an ETA equivalent. Been looking for a while to purchase "pre-bond" Seamaster 200m Automatic (Ref 368.1042). Is there any reason not go for it in general? "Expensive or tricky" to service? Modern Omega Seamaster Watches. The modern Seamaster collection includes everything from the current title holder for the deepest diving watch ever (15,000m rated) to heritage-inspired dress models based on the earliest watches in the collection (60m).Omega Seamaster 200m Pre-Bond The forerunner of the current SM300 models, this model was retrospectively named by collectors the Pre-Bond. It came in a variety of model forms including quartz, steel and two-tone gold, auto, midsize and fullsize, black and champagne dial, and mercedes or sword hands.

Omega SMP 200M Pre Bond is listed by Omega as being either c.1441 or 1438. I know 1441 is the superior movement (dual oscillator, +/- 10 sec per annum etc) but is there any logic to which pre bonds got which movement?

These quartz movements were used across the Swatch group collections and 1441 was designated as the OMega calibre. I'm assuming your example is a 396.1041, and in the later versions of this pre-Bond the cal 1441 was under the bonnet. The Seamaster 200 was available in a full size version (40 mm w/o crown) official size 8.85 x 38.5 x 43.5 and a midsize (38mm w/o crown) official size 8.7 x 36 x 41.
